Description
This is the step by step version of
STEP 1
First I did a very rough sketch in paper. I just placed things where I wanted them to be, even if in the lineart I don't draw marks and other stuff.
This sketch will be my guide for colouring too.
STEP 2
Then I traced the sketch in a clean paper with my new light table.
The paper I used is special for alcohol markers, glossier than normal one.
STEP 3
There you have the traced clean pencil sketch.
It's very important to draw softly and DON'T put pressure with the pencil so that it's easy to erase.
STEP 4
Lineart, done with a very thin marker (0.1 mm)
STEP 5
I shaded it with Copic markers: I started with the lighter one and then darkened the shades with a darker tone.
I did this with 4 different grey tones
STEP 6
Here comes the digital part: I scanned it and opened it in SAI
I set the scanned layer to "multiply" and added a new layer BELOW it.
In this new layer I added flat colours.
My guide when doing marks was the first sketch. This is a complicated character so I had to take a look to the sketch constantly.
STEP 7
I added a layer for background below the other ones.
And I also added more contrast to the shading by adding a new layer in multiply mode, with a dark orange colour.
I used orange because it gives an interesting effect when mixing with green.
STEP 8
Here I added light effects in a new layer in luminosity mode
STEP 9
Now I added a new source of orange light in a new layer which comes from the right-bottom
STEP 10
And VOILÁ! Here you have the finished work, with all details finished (like eyes)
I opened it in Gimp, made background transparent and put a shadow behind it
Hope this helps! If you have any questions please ask! ^-^

Wow, this is just....oh my gosh....I have no words to describe this amazingness... This is simply amazing! How do you shade then scan in with multiple layers??
